“Today is the realisation of a life-long dream, and at the same time will provide solutions for thousands of households and businesses everytime they move and change address or simply change a telephone number.” This was the opening statement from 1Address.com Managing Director, Rex Schelling at the launch of the business at Spier yesterday. The innovative new business has been years in the making and took its first breath today as it was presented to a small group of corporates, shareholders and some members of the media.

The 1Address.com business is one which allows private individuals or corporates to notify all relevant service providers like banks, insurance companies, municipalities, government departments and traffic departments (for example) of address changes in a secure environment. In the past and with the best will in the world, confidential mail still is invariably delivered to the old address even though prior notification has taken place.

1Address.com uses a state of the art computer program to allow the user to make a single address change entry which is then communicated to that user’s service providers. Taken against the backdrop that private individuals and businesses change address or move once every 3 to seven years on average, and every year this amounts to a lot of address changes in South Africa, it starts to become more apparent as to the value and importance of this service.

Schelling believes this will be a substantial time saver and at the same time will have a positive impact on the environment as well. “The amount of wastage associated with incorrectly addressed mail is getting out of hand and contributing to pollution” said Schelling, who believes that his 1Address.com company will quickly cut out a large portion of the wastage incurred when mail is incorrectly addressed and labelled.
